Celebrating its 10th anniversary, the Sema Lease Camphire International Horse Trials and Country Fair takes place 25th – 28th July 2019 in the magnificent setting of the Camphire Estate on the banks of the Blackwater River in Co Waterford.

At the launch of the 2019 Sema Lease Camphire International Horse Trials (L-R): Cathal Daniels, Allen Brady & Richard Ames

International competitors from as far afield as New Zealand, Japan, France and GB will join Ireland’s top Olympic riders at what will be a weekend of thrilling competition at the highest level.

Fittingly in its anniversary year, Camphire not only hosts the Irish leg of the 2019 FEI Eventing Nations Cup™ Series which attracts so many international teams, but also features many new developments. The cross country course displays a stunning new water complex sponsored by Al Eile Stud which is sure to provide some thrilling action for competitors and spectators alike. Moreover live-streaming of the event together with instant results from the innovative new scoring system will enable a global audience to watch the action.

In addition to the teams competing in the FEI Nations Cup Class, Camphire hosts six international classes for individual riders as well as two special Masterclasses for young 4 and 5 year old Irish horses.

Special guest at the launch which took place at the House of Waterford Crystal was Cathal Daniels, who will be back at Camphire in July to defend his title having won the top Class in his first attempt at this level of competition in 2018. Cathal went on to win Silver as part of Ireland’s Silver Medal winning team at last year’s World Equestrian Games. He said: “I was honoured to be awarded the Susie Dobbs Trophy last year as highest placed Irish rider. I can’t wait to get back there. The course is magnificent and the atmosphere at Camphire is quite unique.”

Speaking at the launch, Event Director Paul Brady said: “It is exciting to see the event grow in stature each year, and in particular to be able to carry through so many innovative developments this year. None of this would be possible without the energy and passion of so many people who volunteer to help, nor without the landowners, and the support of long-standing sponsors and patrons. I should like to take this opportunity to thank them all, and to say how grateful we are to both the Wilks and the Browne families on whose magnificent farmlands the event takes place.

Sema Lease continues to provide its generous support as title sponsor. The on-going support of Cahervillahow, Gain Equine Nutrition, Waterford City & County Council, Castleacre and Ecclesiastical Insurance, Horse Sport Ireland and Eventing Ireland is so very much appreciated. It is exciting too this year that sponsors, Plusvital Ltd and Blarney Castle step up to become Class sponsors, and to be joined by new sponsors, House of Waterford Crystal whose world famous crystal will go to Class winners, and Horseware Ireland, who are providing rugs to winners. We are extremely grateful for the support this year of Waterford Leader Partnership.”

Group Chief Executive of title sponsor, Sema Lease, Richard Ames responded at the launch to say: “It is once again a great honour to partner such a prestigious event. After the success of last year, it is wonderful to be hosting the FEI Nations Cup. I congratulate the organising team and look forward to welcoming all the riders, guests and visitors to this year’s event.

Sema Lease specialises in 12 month vehicle leasing with a fleet of some 10,000 vehicles offering vehicle solutions to both private individuals and multinational corporations. We continue to sponsor high level equestrian competitions and riders globally, and Camphire is of the best. I wish all its competitors the best of luck!”

Visitors to this very special part of Waterford will have plenty to entertain them throughout the weekend. At the heart of the bustling Country Fair with its artisan crafts and foods is charity Dog Show sponsored by Gain Pet Nutrition on Sunday 28th July with ten classes to cater for all shapes and size of doggie friends. It will be run in aid of ‘My Canine Companion’, a charity whose dogs make such a difference to so many children.

Commenting on the event, Jimmy Taaffe, Waterford Leader Partnership said: “The Sema Lease Camphire International Horse Trials & Country Fair, through its unique location, and professional approach, satisfies all of the LEADER criteria by: show-casing the sport horse industry; highlighting the beauty of West Waterford; supporting local artisan producers in the Country Fair; and by bringing many international decision makers to an area that has been hidden for many years. Finally, Camphire shares its 10th Anniversary with another excellent event in the West, The Lismore Opera Festival, with both bookending the summer season”.
